Airlines Match Donations to Hero Miles
May 21, 2007

In celebration of Memorial Day, airlines participating in the Fisher House Hero Miles program will match mileage donations beginning May 25, 2007. AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Midwest Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways will match Hero Miles donations made from 6:00am (ET) on Friday, May 25, through 11:59pm (ET) on Monday, May 28.

The Hero Miles program provides travel for families of injured members of the U.S. armed forces who are being hospitalized at military hospitals in locations around the world because of injuries sustained during their service in Iraq or Afgahnistan. Since its inception three and a half years ago, Fisher House has given more than 9,500 free airline tickets to wounded service members and their families, an estimated $12 million worth of air travel. Visit www.fisherhouse.org/programs/heroMilesDonate.shtml for more information about donating miles.

CNN is promoting the initiative and Jim Walton, president of CNN Worldwide, says "The donation of airline miles - and the generosity of the airlines to match them over the Memorial Day weekend - goes a long way to help those who sacrifice so much."
