American Airlines and Operation Iraqi Children (OIC) teamed up recently, with some help from the U.S. Department of Defense, to deliver over 20 tons of basic school supplies, new Crocs shoes and other items to children in Iraq.
Volunteers from both organizations loaded the items into an American Airlines 767 and headed for Iraq where they delivered the items to U.S. soldiers for distribution to the children.
American Airlines became the first U.S. passenger airline to transport humanitarian cargo for distribution in Iraq and helped OIC execute the largest one-time shipment of supplies in OIC’s history.
Crocs SolesUnited(SM) program - a humanitarian shoe donation effort – also teamed up to provide more than 6,000 pairs of Crocs shoes for the Iraqi children.
OIC was founded in 2004 by actor Gary Sinise (Apollo 13, Forrest Gump, CSI: NY) and author Laura Hillenbrand (Seabiscuit: An American Legend). OIC enables Americans to send school supply kits and other necessities, which are distributed by U.S. soldiers directly to Iraqi children.
